Truck catches fire outside Jalan Skudai shopping center

JOHOR BARU: A truck caught fire outside a shopping center in Jalan Skudai, near here, on Friday March 11 at 12:18 p.m.

Larkin Fire and Rescue Station Chief Suhaimi Jamal said 12 firefighters from the station were deployed to the scene under Senior Officer II Nazaruddin Yusof.

He said a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle, an Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) vehicle and two Rapid Response Motorcycle (RIM) units were used in the operation.

“The fire damaged about 80% of the truck and our men used FRT water to extinguish the fire,” Nazaruddin said in a statement.

The operation ended at 12:49 p.m., and the matter is still under investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the casualties.

In another incident, Nazaruddin said a Proton Wira was damaged in a fire near Taman Merdeka, Jalan Tun Abd Razak near here.

“We received an emergency call at 2:30 p.m. regarding the incident,” he said in a statement.

Nazaruddin said 12 firefighters were deployed to the scene with an FRT vehicle, an EMRS vehicle and two RIM units from the station.

“About 90% of the car was damaged in the fire,” he said, adding that operations ended at 2:44 p.m.

The matter is still under investigation to determine the cause of the fire and the losses.
