This modular shopping cart provides room to sit when you’re tired at the store

How many times have you found yourself dragging the trolley through the supermarket from section to section with every corner overwhelming you with hustle and bustle? Worse still, having to wait in line at the checkout to charge for your items seems like an eternity, when you finally stand on your feet after browsing the market for a good hour or so. This conscious concept could end all our woes with a clever design evolution of the cart that won’t leave anyone complaining at the end of the day (or should I say shopping day).

Check out the Settley – a rolling cart to sit on while you’re out on your shopping spree. The clever product is a shopping cart designed to do your shopping comfortably and settle in the supermarket at your convenience without having to look for a space to sit down when your legs give in to fatigue. It’s basically a folding chair squished straight into the cart – especially useful for people with back and leg pain, which can wear them down in the market. No wonder this modular cart is a god-sent accessory during peak hours in any mall.

Designate: designer stitch

Settley is a normal cart until you feel like sitting down, in which you can use the rail system to pull the legs of the cart to extend its length. The small base of the chair hanging on one side can then be lifted and hooked on the other side of the leg to create a sitting space. Not only can you sit on it but also push it forward with your feet like a scooter but in a seated position. After germinating the initial idea, the designers thought about the trolley’s center of gravity so that it would not be unbalanced in a given scenario. To this end, they hit the sweet spot in structural design as gravity supports the basket and the person sitting in the back.

The design also takes into account parents who come shopping with their small children. For this, the Settley trolley has an integrated retractable tray on which the little one can sit while traveling in the shopping arcade with ease. Ultimately, this concept aims to improve the shopping experience in supermarkets. Once the idea gets to prototype stage and then mass production, I’m sure most global retail chains will be lining up to get these modular carts in their arsenal.
