Local and retail businesses are celebrating Veterans Day with specials and giveaways on November 11 as a thank you for their service.

This weekend there will be programs and activities in honor of serving and veteran military personnel.

Treats in the restaurant

West Ally barbecue: Serve a free half rack of ribs to serving and military members with a choice of two sides on Veterans Day

BBQ Bro Bakers: All meals will be 25% off for veteran families and active duty military members during Veterans Day.

Te’KILA Mexican Bar & Grill: On Veterans Day, all meals will be 20% off for Veterans and Active Duty members only, alcohol not included.

Chili’s Grill & Bar: There is a special free menu that will be offered only to serving members and veterans on Veterans Day.

Olive garden: During Veterans Day, Olive Garden will provide a free lunch to all Veterans and Serving Members during regular business hours. They can choose from five different dishes on the menu, not counting their families.

Robin: Red Robin’s Tavern Burger with a side of bottomless steak fries will be the free meal for serving and veteran military personnel.

Offers in stores

Gateway Tire and Service Center: Free standard oil changes for all veterans, serving members and their affected partners.

Century Farm Winery: Veterans and serving members will receive free wine tasting and 10% off their wine purchases on Veterans Day.

Grubb grocery store: Everything is 10% off with proof of military ID. Families of veterans or accompanying active duty members may also qualify for the Veterans Day discount.

Things to do

The 2019 Jackson Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 9. This free event will start at the Farmers Market downtown. Jackson churches are expected to ring their bells throughout western Tennessee to greet all branches of active duty and veteran service.

Northside Assembly Church will be hosting a Veterans Day service on Sunday, November 10 from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in honor of all veterans with a service of appreciation. Musical guest The Borders Bands will perform for all veterans. This event is open to the public.

Trinity Christian Academy will host its annual Veterans Day program, put together by 5th grade students. This public event will take place in the gymnasium of the higher school on Monday, November 11 at 9:00 a.m. The program also has a guest speaker, US Army veteran Bill Forstye will deliver a speech during the program and posters created by them displayed to honor all veterans. There will also be a reception after the program to mingle with the 5th grade students.
