Police: Wheelersburg man hit woman with truck and shopping cart | New

WHEELERSBURG The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office has announced charges against a Wheelersburg man accused of hitting a 75-year-old woman with a truck and shopping cart during a burglary in a parking lot in New Boston.

Robert G. Porter, 34, was charged Tuesday with aggravated theft, according to an office statement. Porter is being held at the Western Regional Jail in West Virginia on unrelated charges.

Authorities have an extradition request in place in West Virginia, so he will be sent to Ohio.

The sheriff’s office said the woman was assaulted in the New Boston Walmart parking lot on July 8 when the suspect stole her purse. The victim approached the sheriff’s office on Aug. 10, after an initial investigation by the New Boston Police Department, the statement said.

Sheriff’s office detectives said they were able to identify Porter via surveillance footage at Walmart and Wheelersburg Kroger, where he is accused of using the victim’s credit card after the theft.

On Monday, detectives located the truck used for the theft at a Wheelersburg home, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives also learned during Porter’s arrest in West Virginia that he was wearing the same clothes he was wearing on the day of the robbery, the press release said.

Sheriff Scioto David Thoroughman said “the arrest was the result of the swift work of his detectives, once informed of the theft.”

The sheriff’s office acknowledged the help of loss prevention departments at Walmart and Kroger, as well as the help of staff at the West Regional Jail.

Other charges are pending and the case will go to the grand jury, the statement said.

Anyone with information on the case should contact Det. Sgt. Jodi Conkle at (740) 354-7338.
