Police make arrest amid reports of gunman in mall
Police made an arrest after responding to reports of a man brandishing a gun and a knife in a shopping mall.
A 50-year-old man was arrested at the Bow Street Mall in Lisburn on Tuesday afternoon.
Officers said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of carrying a firearm in a public place and possessing a point or blade in a public place.
He remained in custody Tuesday evening.
Officers received a report of a man acting suspiciously at the mall at 2:45 p.m.
Lagan Valley MP Pat Catney said the incident was chilling for onlookers at the mall.
“This incident at Bow Street Mall has been extremely distressing to shoppers and staff,” the SDLP representative said.
“No one should be subjected to this as part of their job or their day.
“There is absolutely no place for guns in our community and I am pleased that all guns recovered from this incident are now removed from our streets.
“I would like to commend the efforts of the police to put an end to this incident without causing any injuries and would ask anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the police in their investigation.”
