Mobi smart shopping cart follows you everywhere and lets you have fun again
Mobi is smart, compact and very efficient. Using AI and a myriad of sensors, it would be able to track shoppers in the supermarket or market, take them to the place they are interested in, help them check off items from their store. list and facilitate payment. Mobi would be, if it ever happened (fingers crossed), the shopping buddy we always wanted but could only dream of.
The idea for this smart shopping cart arose from the realization by designers that part of the fun of shopping had evaporated. Once a fun activity, it wasn’t anymore because of the many totally unnecessary processes that made fun impossible.
Another objective of this project was to solve the problem of efficiency. As a result of these processes, the shopping experience was inefficient, resulting in frustration and wasted time for everyone involved.
Among these processes, the designers list the need to pull out your phone to check your shopping list, find staff to ask them where a product is, the queue at the checkout, and then go to the table. packing. Mobi replaces all of this with a very compact, futuristic and in fact quite elegant solution.
Once the shopper arrives at the supermarket, market, or mall, they deploy the Mobi from their docking station by partnering with them through a mobile app. The designers are also imagining the possibility of uploading your existing shopping list to Mobi, which would significantly improve shopping times. The built-in screen lets you keep track of what you need, and the sensors inside help you check items the moment you add them to the cart.
Mobi can follow you around the store or, perhaps just as important, get you to the product you need. It has a built-in navigation system, so you can “ask” it for directions to a certain aisle, and it will locate the aisle and product and take you there.
Because this smart shopping car aims to reduce in-store downtime, it also comes with an integrated payment method. In other words, you would no longer have to stand in line at the checkout: once all your items were added to the cart, you could pay contactlessly and then leave. “Make payments without space or time constraints” say the designers.
The Mobi docking station also serves as a charging station, allowing up to 16 such carts. The part that contains the purchases folds out when the Mobi is in use and folds up for docking, making it a very compact and space-saving solution. For increased efficiency, the docking / charging station could serve as a self-packing area, suppressing yet another of these unnecessary “processes”.
Buyers reluctant to modern specs of the Mobi could also use it the traditional way or, at least, that’s what the designers seem to be suggesting when they say it comes with a handle that can be pushed the old-fashioned way. . Of course, they would still have to team up with it to remove it from the docking station, but at least they wouldn’t have a dehumanized machine following them everywhere.
All the buts and ifs apart, this is just a concept. Smart shopping carts are not a new idea, and some features of the ones mentioned above are already or will soon be implemented locally. So maybe it’s more than just vaporware: a glimpse into the future. With a bit of luck.
