Witnesses said McQueen dragged the victim onto the pavement of State Road 90 and started stomping on his head. He then grabbed a blue shopping cart and hit his head about three times, according to an arrest report.

The victim has not yet been identified, but may be homeless and in critical condition at Kendall Regional Hospital, according to the report.

Residents of the mall told NBC 6 the victim was well known in the area and often sold water and flowers on Southwest 8th Street.

A retired firefighter stopped at the scene and put the suspect at gunpoint to prevent him from hitting the victim, the report said.

The suspect was then arrested and transported to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center where he was charged with attempted second degree murder and assault and battery. McQueen’s bond was set at $ 100,000 and the attorney’s information was not available.
