Makola shopping center destroyed by fire
• Makola market was on fire again this morning
• Eyewitnesses say they saw smoke rising from Makola shopping center
• We do not know what caused this fire.
Another fire ravaged parts of Makola Market in Accra’s central business district.
The fire, citinewsroom.com reports, began around 7:25 a.m. on Sunday, August 15, 2021, in parts of the interior perimeter of the new Makola shopping center.
According to the report, the cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The mall has stores ranging from hair and cosmetic products to clothing, shoes, jewelry, and even fabric.
Ghana’s National Fire Service was dispatched to the scene early enough to extinguish the blaze.
Eyewitnesses said they saw smoke coming out of the building early in the morning, prompting security personnel to stand guard at the mall.
“This morning we were on our normal security patrol here when a colleague told me he saw smoke coming from the roof of the mall. So I told the mall security staff to check it out. I personally tried to call the number of the fire department several times, but it did not work.
“So we tried to put out the fire ourselves. 30 minutes later, firefighters intervened to bring the blaze under control. It was difficult to get to the exact location of the fire, but everything was burnt. The flames have been brought under control now, but there is a lot of smoke in the area, ”an eyewitness said.
It will be remembered that at the beginning of July, a three-story building in Makola – in fact in front of the Makola shopping center, was razed by a fire which was only completely extinguished after days.
