Attention buyers: there is a hero in aisle 6.
An Illinois supermarket worker is being hailed a hero after running through the store’s parking lot to rescue a baby who was strapped into a runaway shopping cart.
Ben Mazur, a courtesy clerk at a Schnucks supermarket in Alton, was fighting over shopping carts on March 17 when he heard a car horn “honk repeatedly and frantically,” Schnucks recounted in a recent Facebook post. “It turned out that the owner of the car was trying to get someone’s attention because there was a runaway trolley driving through the store’s parking lot,” according to the supermarket chain.
Mazur quickly noticed that it wasn’t just a cart – there was also a baby strapped into the child seat.

“The mother would put her other children in the car and they would honk their horns to get her attention,” Mazur told Fox 2 of the baby’s mother.
Thinking quickly, Mazur crossed the field and stopped the cart before it hit a stop sign, the outlet reported.
“I stopped what I was doing and saved the baby,” Mazur told Fox 2.
Now Schnucks management and clientele are praising Mazur’s heroic actions.
“We have a sloped parking lot and the carts can go fast,” Alton co-manager Tom Moore said on Facebook. “Quick thinking on Ben’s part saved the baby. Congratulations, Ben, you’re a hero!”
“Not all heroes wear a cape,” one customer added. “A way to save the day.”
“Faster than a baby rolling fast!” another joked. “Good job Ben.”
“They need a ‘Ben Mazur’ day at the store!! With cake,” a fan suggested.

A Shnucks representative further confirmed that Mazur had been rewarded for managing the Alton site.
“We are very proud of Ben for coming to the rescue!” a Schnucks spokesperson told Fox News. “One of Schnucks’ core values is to ‘execute to win’, and without hesitation Ben did just that to save the baby. He was truly the hero of the day.”
