Coupang is the No.1 shopping mall without equal, used by almost half of Koreans

Almost half of South Korea’s population uses Coupang for online shopping, with 21.58 million registered users in a country of 51.8 million people.

According to local app and retail trackers WiseApp and WiseRetail on Tuesday, Coupang was by far the most used shopping platform for Koreans in March, followed by 11th with 7.45 million users, Gmarket 5.77 million, WeMakePrice 4.49 million, TMON 4.22 million, and BucketPlace 4.08 million.

In March, Koreans processed the Coupang app 8 billion times.

Coupang leads the rankings for all age groups. Coupang is the # 1 shopping app followed by A-bly, Zigzag, 11st and Musinsa. In the group of 20, Coupang was followed by Zigzag, Musinsa, A-bly, Idus and 11th. Most of the top-ranked shopping platforms for young consumers are fashion and lifestyle shopping apps, with the exception of Coupang and 11st.

Coupang is also the most used ecommerce app for people in their 30s and 40s, with 11st, Gmarket, WeMakePrice, and TMON including the list in order of preference.

Consumers aged 50 and over used Coupang most often, followed by 11st, Home and Shopping, Gmarket, and GS Shop.

The survey was conducted from March 1 to March 31 among 38.68 million Google Android users and 7 million Apple iOS users over the age of 10. It excluded second-hand goods sales apps and buying platforms from Naver and Kakao.
