Black Friday 2019 shopping deals in Burlington, Williston

It’s that time of year again: the busiest shopping season. As Thanksgiving approaches and the holiday season begins, shoppers check their listings the day after Turkey Day.

The day after Thanksgiving, better known as Black Friday, turned into a shopping spree, encouraged by major retailers across the country.

The boom in online shopping and new business holidays like Small Business Saturday and Cyber ​​Monday over the past decade has broken the tradition of in-store holiday shopping.

How many days of shopping?

This year in particular, there are fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas, prompting stores to post deals online early in the weeks before Black Friday.

Some retailers have decided to postpone their hours to Thanksgiving, forcing employees to work during the holidays and cutting off family and friends reunions.

If you plan to shop on a Thursday night or early Friday morning, here’s a list of stores you can plan ahead.

Big stores

When you’re looking for just about everything from clothes and appliances to toys and tech, these department stores have it all.

Walmart in Williston will open early at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and will remain open all night through Friday. Likewise, the South Burlington Kohl’s at University Mall will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and continue sales through the night.

Black Friday hours for Target start at 7 a.m. until the store closes at 10 p.m. For those hoping to start earlier, the store will open at 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day and close at 1 a.m.

Whether you’re just trying to shop for socks for all your loved ones or need sweaters and jackets for the winter, these clothing stores will be open throughout Thanksgiving weekend.

Old navy in Williston will open at 3 p.m. on Thursday and will remain open until Friday at 10 p.m. JC Penney in South Burlington will open at 2 p.m. on Thursday and remain open until 9 p.m. on Friday. Thrift store Plato’s closet will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but open during regular business hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Games and technology

For the gaming or tech enthusiast in your life, there are many stores in the area for you to check out. Gamestop, both in South Burlington and Williston, will open at midnight on Black Friday and stay open until 9 p.m.

For the sixth consecutive year, Best buy opens its doors on Turkey Day. Shoppers have the option of visiting the electronic retailer on Thanksgiving Day between 5:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. or waiting for the store to reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Black Friday.

Looking for something for the music lover you know, it may be worth visiting these local music stores.

Fall Records in Winooski,and Pure pop records and Burlington Discs in Burlington. will participate in the National Record Store Day Black Friday. Exclusive releases from big names and lesser-known musicians may be available for purchase.

Outdoor recreation

Exchange of outdoor equipment hosts an “epic holiday sale” in the weeks leading up to Black Friday, but people can always plan ahead to shop for that day. Outdoor Gear Exchange will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and reopen during regular business hours on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

LL bean will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, but will reopen from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday. In the same way, Patagonia will close its doors on Turkey Day and reopen at the usual times from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Unlike other large retailers, REI Cooperative does not celebrate the holiday of retail. Since 2015, the outerwear retailer has been running a #OptOutside campaign, closing its stores on Thanksgiving and Black Friday, offering its employees paid family time off and encouraging people to spend time outdoors instead.

Raven Bookstore downtown Burlington will close early Wednesday night before Thanksgiving around 5 or 6 p.m., a representative from Crow Bookshop said. The independent bookstore will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, and will reopen at regular times on Black Friday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The great bookseller Barnes and Noble will be open during regular hours from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
