An employee assaulted by youths at the Tauranga shopping center
Tauranga Police are investigating after a worker at Bayfair Shopping Center suffered a serious assault yesterday.
“The man was walking on a break when he was allegedly assaulted by a group of youths near the Farm Street bus interchange just after 3 p.m.,” said Senior Sergeant Nick Lewer, who was in charge of the incident. the Tauranga region, in a press release.
The alleged attackers fled and the victim sustained serious eye injuries, police said.
“The Farm Street area was busy at the time and we urge anyone who saw the assault or can help us identify those involved to contact us.”
Police said there had been an increase in incidents relating to young people congregating near the mall.
“In response, we have increased our presence in this area and we continue to work with the mall and local and regional authorities to resolve these ongoing issues,” Lewer said.
An investigation is also underway into damage to a bus on Farm Street just after 5.15pm on May 12.
