2 killed, 4 injured in shooting at Boise shopping center

BOISE, Idaho – Police in Boise, Idaho, said Monday that two people were killed and four injured – including a police officer – in a shopping mall shooting.

A suspect has been taken into custody.

At a press conference, authorities said they were making their way into every business in the mall.

The police are asking people to avoid the area. Police also said they were notifying the families of those involved.

The Boise Towne Square Mall is located in the largest city in Idaho and is the largest mall in the city.

Police were questioning dozens of people outside the entrance to Macy’s, one of the mall’s five department stores which has 153 stores in total.

Police are also investigating what appears to be another crime scene at a restaurant near the mall.

Cheri Gypin, from Boise, was in the mall with a friend where they walk for an hour three or four times a week. She said she heard several loud bangs, but thought something fell from the ceiling. Then around 60 people, including families pushing strollers, rushed at them, some shouting that there was an active shooter.

“My friend was trying to treat him,” said Gypin, 60. “I just looked at her and said, ‘We have to run. So we ran and kept running until we got to the outside perimeter of the parking lot.

They returned to their car, where police told the crowd that had fled the mall to leave the parking lot.
