No less than 11 people were killed and seven others injured when a fire broke out on Tuesday in a shopping center in the center of the capital Damascus.

The fire engulfed the Lamirada shopping center on Hamra Street, one of Damascus’ most famous markets, killing 11 people, the official SANA news agency reported.

Some people suffered breathing difficulties caused by the smoke as the injured were taken to a hospital in the city.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the fire, which left huge damage and material loss, according to SANA.
